Justin Barcia's crash at the Anaheim 1 Supercross was a very real-world example of the Tech-Air® MX System in action. For Justin to come away without suffering a significant injury shows the performance of airbag technology, especially with the severity of the crash and subsequent impacts. The graphs below displays the data from Justin's system throughout the crash, with a few key points to highlight:
The airbag deployed 0.17 seconds after his bike hit another rider as he was pitched forward.
0.39 seconds passed between full airbag inflation and Barcia hitting the ground.
Initial ground impact measured a peak of 27.6 G’s.
He hit the ground multiple times with about 25 G on each impact as he tumbled.
The airbag stayed fully inflated during the 2.7-second crash.
This crash was very severe in terms of forces from impacts. We were extremely relieved that Justin was wearing the system as it was able to do its job and keep him relatively safe in a very dangerous situation.

It’s always tough to see a crash like this happen, and no one wants to watch a rider get hurt. At the same time, it was amazing to see Alpinestars’ Tech-Air Mx deploy exactly as designed, helping reduce the risk of serious injury. This crash is a clear example of how years of development and investment in this technology can make riding safer and protect more riders in real-world situations.
Tech-Air Mx is available now at MxBoot.com in very limited quantities, with all sizes in stock and shipping fast. We’re working to get more inventory as soon as possible. Don’t miss your chance to ride with this level of protection.
