The Tech-Air® MX is a fully autonomous, tether-free airbag system designed for motocross and off-road riders. It uses sensors and algorithms to detect a crash and inflates automatically before a fall or impact to protect your chest, back, and shoulders. In the event of a crash, you benefit from both the standard passive protection and the added airbag protection for maximum safety.

The Tech-Air® MX uses six tri-axial sensors communicating with an onboard ACU at millisecond-level speed to detect potential crashes. When a fall or impact is detected, the airbag inflates in 40 milliseconds (1/25th of a second), providing upper body protection to the chest, back, and shoulders. The airbag delivers Level 1 airbag protection and can reduce impact forces to the body by up to 75% compared to passive protection alone. The system adapts to your riding style through multiple rider modes: MX, MX Race, Trail, and Rally.

No. The Tech-Air® MX is fully autonomous and uses sensors and algorithms that know when a fall or impact is happening. It features multiple rider modes: MX, MX Race, Trail, and Rally. Each mode has different sensitivity settings so the airbag only deploys when necessary for your riding style. For example, in MX Race mode, the algorithm has been trained so that a crash like a low side fall will not cause a deployment.

After deployment, the Tech-Air® MX stays fully inflated for about five seconds to absorb the impact, then automatically deflates so you can continue riding with the standard CE Level 1 chest and back protection. Once off the track, you can get it ready to ride again by repacking the airbag and replacing the argon canister yourself. This only takes a couple of minutes. The Tech-Air® MX unit itself can deploy an unlimited number of times. Each deployment uses one argon canister, which must be replaced after use. After replacing the canister and repacking the airbag, the system is ready to go again. While the unit will continue to function indefinitely, Alpinestars recommends inspecting and replacing the airbag after six deployments to ensure optimal performance. Full-unit servicing will also be offered in the future, with more details to come.

Each mode adjusts the airbag’s sensitivity to match your riding style and the type of terrain you are on. • MX – Balanced sensitivity for everyday motocross or Supercross riding. Designed to stay inactive during small tip-overs while providing full protection in real crash situations. • MX Race – A more selective mode built for competitive racing, deploying only during high-impact crashes to prevent unnecessary inflations during minor falls. • Trail – Optimized for off-road and trail riding, providing protection for unpredictable terrain. • Rally – Designed for longer rides and rally-style tracks. Use this mode if you are averaging speeds of 50 MPH or more. Additional Algorithms – Load other algorithms through the Tech-Air® App for different riding styles. For example, a dual sport or adventure rider can load a street algorithm for short sections between trailheads while mainly riding off-road. Save your setup to one of your two MyRide quick selections and switch modes quickly from the unit on the chest protector. The street algorithm helps protect against unexpected impacts like a rear-end collision on the road. Choose the mode that best matches your riding style and terrain. Easily switch between the three selectable options on the chest protector. The system only deploys when necessary, keeping you protected without unnecessary inflations.

The Tech-Air® MX features a module on the chest protector with three quick select slots: MX (default), MyRide 1, and MyRide 2. You can save your preferred algorithms, like ones loaded through the Tech-Air® App, to MyRide 1 and MyRide 2. This allows you to switch between your selected modes on the fly, whether you’re racing, trail riding, or taking short sections of road on a dual sport. The quick select module makes it easy to match your airbag settings to different riding conditions without needing to access the app mid-ride.

No. The Tech-Air® MX app does not require any subscription or ongoing fees. The app is free to download and use, and all core features are included at no additional cost. This includes ride mode selection, system status information, and firmware updates. Once you purchase the Tech-Air® MX system, there are no app-related subscriptions required.

The Tech-Air® MX provides up to 30 hours of ride time on a full charge. When it’s time to recharge, the battery takes about 4 hours to reach full capacity.

Yes, the Tech-Air® MX is available in Men's sizes Small through 2XL, with smaller sizes in development. It will fit like your shirt size. If you typically wear a loose shirt, consider going down a size for a tighter, more body-hugging fit.
